Greetings to one and all
Benja & Rose...
We've been looking forward to this point in our lives. I'm at the tail end of my Master's Degree, weeks away from graduating. Lately for me, I've been eyeball deep in school work, Java code in my dreams, long hours in the library after a long day at work. I come home to my sleeping wife, sometimes 2 or 3 in the morning. I get up and walk down the street to work at 8:30 the next morning.
I'm working at the University of Chicago and we live just down the street. I supervise an office called Identification and Privileges Office in the Library. I've been working around there since 1999. The Master's program I'm completing is designed to take a year, but I've been doing it a quarter at a time, so I'm finishing up in three years. Rose is a Business Systems Analyst at an insurance company out near Midway Airport. She finshed her Master's degree a year or two ago.
We got married last year, August 22nd. It was the anniversary of our first date as a couple. Our wedding on this side of the ocean was at the Bond Chapel here on the U of C campus. We have yet to have a chance to share our Union with Rose's parents, Patrick and Lydia Mushuku. They have been graceful enough to allow us to have the ceremony with my family this side in their absence. This summer, we finally get a chance to celebrate with them, and for me, I will be meeting most of the family for the first time. Rose's second sister, Rutendo, has spent several months living with us this past winter, visiting during a break from school at Rhodes University in South Africa.
South Africa is where Rose and I first met, while I was studying at Fort Hare University and Rose was at Rhodes University. There's many stories to tell there, so stay tuned as we take this chance to chronicle our lives and share this with you.
There are many interesting journeys to come and many journeys that have gone, and we look forward to sharing them with you.
